It started in 1990 as the successor program to "High School Course" (1982-1989). In 1991, it was revamped as "Education Seminar: NHK High School Course" to meet the general audience's need for systematic learning programs. Following the revision of the curriculum guidelines in 2003 and the increase in students choosing correspondence high schools, the title was changed back to "NHK High School Course," and it was broadcast primarily for correspondence high school students at 107 schools nationwide, with the aim of being useful for self-study.

イギリスの国民食といえば何を思い浮かべるだろうか？ その代表は意外にも魚料理だ。なぜ肉料理ではないのか？ なぜ国民に広く浸透したのか？ それには産業革命とその後の工業化の定着が大きく影響している。また、当時の世界的なクジラの乱獲や幕末日本の開国なども産業革命が大きな影響を与えている。その後の日本や世界の歴史を大きく変え、さらにブラック企業など、現代に続く多くの問題を生み出した産業革命を考察する。
